contemplation of the soul

I began a new work last week which is an exploration of the defination of the soul. does the soul exist? what are the perspectives of the soul from a Muslim, christian and philosophical perspectives. In Plato's time the soul was a departure from morality and caused one to to sinful and hedonistic acts.

My thoughts as a practicing Buddhist should be that the soul does not exist as there is no self in Buddhism so why should there be a soul. However I somehow believe there is a part of us that is free from all the conditions that life places on us and the conditions that we create for ourselves.

Somewhere there is a part of us that has a "true" place of satisfaction and this happens before we die, not magically afterlife.

deep thoughts, on another note I have been thinking of how I would like to create a piece for the Highline along the river. The architecture in spots is incredible, when I go there I think of old New York and the history of commerce, as foods and products were shipped by boat along the Hudson.

I have also been thinking I would like to start a discussion group of mid career artist to reflect on the current financial and artistic challenges facing the arts in America. More than ever my resolve has been tested in these times and my solution is to simplify and redefine my field as the old models of running a dance company I believe are faded. Once again it is time to re-invent myself and find a new model for creating work for the stage, perhaps it is the stage that needs to be re-invented.
